They had a day last week where they learned how to brush their teeth. Now Abby has been brushing her own teeth for about 2 months now, but to have it in school helped. She was more excited that night to brush her teeth because she saw all the other kids doing it. She also learned how to brush with Sewak (a stick the Saudis and other a
Arabs use to brush their teeth) which she loves. It's an adjustment though because I've had to tell her that she can't just pick a stick up off the ground and start chewing. She can only use ones that mommy and daddy give her! :)
Yesterday they had beauty day. They had all the girls in one room and did their hair and makeup (the did seek parent's permission before doing this). Abby loves dress up, so how could I say no? They taught the girls how to look their best, albeit Saudi style with the bright makeup and large hair, which by they way I was very impressed that the teacher got my blonde haired little girl's hair teased as high as she did! Abby was so excited to come home and show off that we had trouble getting her out of the makeup at bedtime. But it also helped this morning when I was washing her face and brushing her hair. She looked at me, took the brush and said, "Mommy I can do this. I want to look good today!"
Today is her first field trip. I can't wait to hear about it, but yes I'm on edge with her traveling outside the school. They've been learning the value of money. If they eat their lunch, they are able to purchase a treat from the canteen at the school. Today they are going to the mall to "shop" (the mall is closed - it's only for the kids today) and have lunch that they get to order (pizza is the only thing on the menu). I'm excited to hear how she does and how she liked being independent and shopping on her own.
She's growing up so fast and it seems so much faster since starting school. I applaud the teachers she has as they are fantastic and I love the life lessons she's learning, not just the drilling of letters and numbers. She's learned left from right and how to color in the lines, but she's also dressing herself more and going to the fridge to get her own snacks and water. She's choosing fruits over junk and really becoming a little Miss.
I'm just being a proud mama for a minute and had to share! :)
